Why Do Carolers Walk Around The Neighborhood Singing?

If your mind works at all like mine you may have wondered this very thing. I have went caroling, been caroled to, but have never really known where or why the practice originated. Well for me and those inquisitive souls like me HowStuffWorks.com has an article on this very subject. Why do Christmas carolers walk around the neighborhood singing? So now we can all learn a little bit more about this grand Christmas tradition.

Sam Abramson. "Why do Christmas carolers walk around the neighborhood singing?". November 21, 2007 http://christmas.howstuffworks.com/christmas-caroler.htm (December 12, 2007)

No Sex In Space? Why Go?

I was just checking out one of my favorite blogs of all time The Museum of Hoaxes and read this article Still No Sex In Space. I thought it was funny due to the fact that I have actually thought about how sex in space would work. Rumor has it so has NASA. I guess it involves elastic bands of some kind. Sounds kinky to me. I know that when this online money making stuff nets me my 40 million me and a lady friend are heading into space for some kinky elastic band assisted sex! Well one can hope right? Man you guys are too serious.

Remember When The Bell Ringers Used To Be Tough

What do you think of this years crop of bell ringers? I was entering the store the other day and heard the familiar bell ringing we all hear this time of year. I started looking around for the little red pot gaurded by the heavily bundled but cheerful bell ringer. After glancing from side to side I was unable to find the source of the ringing. After entering the stores first set of doors I found out why. The bell ringer was inside the store and sitting in a chair. I didn't have any cash on me entering so I passed by with nary a peep of a holiday greating from the person. Upon leaving I dropped a dollar and some change into the pot only to be greated with a curt, and certainly not cheerful, happy holidays.

Maybe this is a case of selective memory. Maybe the young bell ring had personal reasons for his location. Maybe rules changed or never were. Maybe maybe maybe. Though now that I am conscious of it I have noticed this trend at other locations as well. I remember growing up and even until recently when, in addition to normal holiday giving, we would give the bell ringer money just out of sympathy for them having to brave the elements and ring that bell. They always seemed to be cheerful and polite and that always made you feel good about giving. Heck I even remember my Dad buying one poor soul coffee to help warm her up. That is how I remember the bell ringers. Tough "soldiers" yet cheerful and full of the Christmas spirit. I wonder how donations are doing. Have you noticed the same thing or is it just me? Have you had a negative experience?

Do You Believe What The World Believes About You?

We are all apt to believe what the world believes about us.
- George Eliot

This is an interesting statement. What is your answer to the title question? Do you even know what the world believes about you? Do you even care? Does it even matter?

I think the statement is true in many cases. People become what other people perceive them as. People will let others perceptions of them define who they are and what they become. This is not a long post but I wanted to get you thinking. Are you the person you truly want to be? Or are you what other people percieve you to be? Are your perceptions of yourself different than others? How do you determine who is correct?

Lots of questions I know. Let me have your cognitive content on the matter. Leave a comment and let us know what you think.

Time And Eternity - My Dad's Response

Johnathan, your pondering is indeed something to ponder. However you have forgotten something very important. If the basis of your study is wrong, then the conclusion will be wrong. You started your basis for pondering with the finite trying to get to the infinite. It will never work. The reason .33333 plus .6666 will never come to a mathmatical decimal one is because man can never reach to the level of God. It does not matter how intelligent man is, his combined knowledge, wisdom, genius, or reasoning ability will never equal God's.

You asked about the linear movement of time. You must remember that in God's world, there is no such thing as time. We keep everthing organized, not because of linear movement of time, but because God is not the author of confusion, so He set things in order. You also asked if time could just be the result of mulitple infinities. The answer is yes, if you believe in multiple gods or co-equal, co-eternal, co-existent beings in that one god. But if you believe that there is only One God and He is Spirit, then you realize that time is a creation of that infinite spirit so He could deal with the .3333 plus .6666 of His creation.

When you are talking of God's creation being man and calling him finite, then you must remember that not all of man is finite. There is a part of man that is infinite. Man is not the finite result of many infinities. Infinities did not combine to create. Infinity did it by Himself. God is not an infinite number of infinities. He is I Am. When you are infinity, there are no others. God did not, does not, nor will combine with any other infinite, finite, or entity in order to be. This is why this verse is in scripture. Hebrews 11:6, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." We must first believe that God is. We can not explain Him with man's wisdom nor science, but we can explain him through faith.

I know we have talked at length of faith. Faith is truly like beauty. We may not be able to universely define it, but each of us know it when we see it. So it is with us. We may not all have the same definition of faith, but God certainly knows it when He sees it. And He certainly does reward it. . In conclusion, eternity is not a construct. Eternity is. It is, because God is. It is not a combination of anything. Eternity is man living in God's world. Time is God living in man's world.

Love You Dad

Butt Bunchers! You Walk They Ride!

Tell me that is not a great tag line for a new line of Plus Size clothing. You ever wonder why short fat people can never find pants long enough? I have. I have also wondered why the pants and shorts ride up so bad? That has to be uncomfortable.

That is where my new line of plus size clothing comes in. It will be designed to ride up comfortably yet still be fashionable. If you can't keep them from riding design them to ride comfortably.

Oh come on....You've thought you just never had the guts to say :)

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

The Nature Of Time And Eternity?

Maybe it is just me but growing up, and even now, I always used to wonder that if eternity is a state without time how does everything happening at once work? How do you keep things organized when there is no linear movement of time?

What if, and it might seem a bit paradoxical at first, time is just the sum of multiple infinities. You may be asking how can infinites combine to create the finite? Well consider my next point. What is the sum of 1/3 and 2/3? 3/3 right? Okay now what is the sum of the decimal representation of the fractions? .3333 repeating and .6666 repeating? .9999 repeating right? Now I won't go into mathematical proofs about why .9999 repeating does or does not = 1, but here you have an example of two infinite repeating decimals coming together to form a finite integer.

If God is an infinite number of infinities then would His creation be the finite result of the sum of some of those infinities? Is eternity simply a construct wherein infinities don't combine to form finite periods of time? Or is eternity a construct wherein infinite infinites combine to form an infinite number of finite times?

Sorry to get so deep this early in the morning but I was pondering this and thought I would share it with you and get your thoughts on the matter.

Why Don't Alarms Say Something Useful

Okay this is just me but why don't car alarms say something useful? For example: "This piece of crap early 90's cavalier is being ignored so I just wanted everyone to look at it." I mean really an alarm on a rusted early 90's cavalier? I guess I should give the benefit of the doubt and assume a $1000 stereo or something.

And what about home alarms why don't they scream out, "Hey neighborhood, 1111 Any St. is being broken into, surround the stupid ()^&*^%*(#%*( and bring guns!" Don't you think that would work better? I do. That is what I was pondering in my little mind at the moment.

Mosquito - Small Things CAN Make A Difference

If you think something small can't make a difference, try going to sleep with a mosquito in the room. How about lingerie? That is small, but man can it make a difference in the mood, over say a flannel nightgown :). Small things can and will make a difference. It doesn't take a million dollar necklace, or a 'round-the-world trip. It only takes "that" look, a smile, a compliment, a hand, a touch, a hug.

To many times in life small things get left undone in the pursuit of "big" things that never seem to get accomplished. When things finally come to an end you oft times will find it was the accumulation of small things done or left undone that was the undoing or the glue that held everything together.

Take some time today to reflect on some small things you are doing that are causing problems. Or small things you aren't doing that could bring about positive results. Call your wife or husband for no reason at all but just to say you love them and how happy you are to be with them, then hang up.

If you stop doing the little things for your husband or wife and you will quickly find that little things undone become "big" points of resentment and discontentment. You see in my opinion love depends not on what a person does for you, but what you do for that person. I am certainly no relationship expert, but I was just pondering and thinking today and thought I would share that thought with you.

The Early Worm Gets Eaten

We have all heard the saying "The early bird gets the worm." Well that is great for the bird but what if you are the worm? It is okay to sleep in late sometimes. It is okay, at times, to put things off for a while. It is okay to take time for yourself. Now I'm sounding like Dr. Phil. Somebody shoot me now :). Sorry I digress. In our pedal-to-the-metal society sometimes you just need to lock the parking break, lean the seat back, take a nap and let those 10 lanes of traffic pass you by.

I wrote a post several days ago I called The Second Mouse Gets the Cheese discussing briefly the issue I have with our society's "finish first, second place is the first loser" mentality. We destroy our lives and commit, what I call, "happiness suicide." What I mean by that is we kill off our own happiness on the altar of success and get-ahead. Find your place of contentment, not complacency mind you, I said contentment. You can strive for better things and set lofty goals, which you should, without living your life in a state of discontentment and disappointment. Remember contentment not complacency. Take some time today to reflect on the difference on the difference and tranquilo.

Moose, Mouse, Mousse

I know that the english language is screwed up, but this one hit me this morning when I was getting ready for work.

Why when you have mouse, with one s, it is pronounced mous, yet when you add the second s it changes to moos, like moose. Hmmm...makes sense to me. Hey at lease we are consistent, to a point. Souse is pronounced sous, and Sousse, is pronounce Soos. Souse is to immerse in water, or slang for drunk, and Sousse is a city in Tunisia on the Med coast I believe but don't quote me. I think maybe this came from Jeopardy. Anyway now you have something to ponder.

You Ever Wonder How Muppets Work?

Yeah well so have I. The funny thing is that when I was a kid I was curious how they got the muppets to work when all the puppet shows I had seen had people hidden behind a curtain holding up puppets. I did some research when I was around 7 or 8 just so I could know how muppets work. Well now you can too! How Stuff Works has a great article on this very subject. Go and satisfy your curiosity and learn once and for all How Muppets Work!

Extra Medium?

Okay, just sitting here wondering once again why they make extra small, hereafter referred to as XS, and extra large, hereafter referred to as XL, but they don't make extra medium, hereafter referred to as XM. No I have not lost it and yes I know what medium means. Let me explain and maybe you can understand a bit better.

I used to be a medium. No problems everyone has mediums and things seemed to fit just fine. Then I got the bright idea of working out, lifting weights and what not. Well I've bulked up a bit, and have now run into a bit of a problem. My mediums no longer fit quite the way they used to. They are tight and bunch a bit in the shoulders and chest. Okay so I took this as a sign that I needed to move up to a large. NOPE. Didn't work. It looked like I was swimming in fabric, and wearing clothes that don't fit makes you look bad and cheap. I like my clothes to look as close to tailored, and even have some done, as possible. I also like them to be comfortable.

Okay, sorry back to the XM stuff. For people that are smaller than small they have XS. Good solution. For folks that are larger than large they have XL. Another good answer to the obesity problems. Not only that they extend these ranges for the tiniest and largest amongst us. XXS and 3 or even 4XL anyone. But what about me? I feel like an under-served demographic in this country that are actually pretty close to normal. I'm not fat, well according to the BMI charts I am borderline obese. My thoughts on those charts is for another time though. I'm not quite a medium yet not quite a large. Hence the need for XM.

Funny thing is I have thought this out way too much. They could have XM+ and XM-, you know above and below M. That way you get those that are like me and the ones that are between M and S. See XM is a great solution to the problem. Hey I have always been told don't come with problems come with solutions. So here I am for all of you designers and powers that be in the clothing and fashion industries bringing you a solution. An idea whose time has come.

Of course I could just make sure that I only by medium shirts that are stretch. That has been working also. Nah....Bring on the XM+!
